Beth emailed us her nomination for Kidde Hero of the Week and we couldn’t wait to share it with you…

Dear Kix,

My hero is my first husband Curtis.  I met Curtis September 2001 at a college party and we ended up taking a nice walk around the city and I could tell he was different.  He had the kindest heart and cared so much for others.  Who knew that during my first night at college I would meet someone that I would hope to spend the rest my life with…

A few weeks later, we officially started dating and life was never the same.  We fell in love very quickly, and by the following Easter, we were engaged.

We got married in 2003. I transferred schools to be closer to home, and the following year we bought a house and found out I was pregnant.  Two years later, we had a beautiful daughter, but in December of 2006, my world fell apart.  I lost Curtis to a fatal car accident just days before Christmas.

As I mentioned, Curtis had a huge heart and cared so much for others…so much so that he was adamant about being an organ donor.  And, so at the time of his death, he was able to help save lives of others!

Kix, in the short five years of knowing Curtis, he taught me so much… He left a legacy of being a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend…and a life-saving hero.

There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of my special guardian angel who left this world way to soon… But, he made a difference in our lives and gave the gift of life to others through the ever-important organ donation.

Thanks for letting me share my hero story.

Signed,
Beth

Kix's Response:

Thanks, Beth… Sometimes our heroes are what most folks would call just everyday people. It doesn’t always take place in a burning building; sometimes it’s just living a life the way it’s supposed to be lived and leaving the world a better place than you found it.
