This week’s story is from Ashley in Iowa who emailed us…
Dear Kix,
I am 24 years-old and have had Type 1 diabetes since I was five. I have gone to a diabetic camp in Boone, Iowa since the time I was diagnosed. And, well, during my freshman year of high school, I met this boy Lucas who also has Type 1 diabetes and who also attended the same camp.
It never failed that every summer either he had a girlfriend or I had a boyfriend, but we always had a little spark for the week we were at camp together. Finally, the summer before our senior year of high school, neither of us had a significant other and one afternoon HE KISSED ME!!!
After that we started dating, and had a long distance relationship for six and a half years where we had to drive for four hours, but we finally just got married on June 28th, one week before our seven year anniversary!
Every time the song for this feature comes on the radio, it reminds me about how long I waited for Lucas to just kiss me and then how long I waited to marry him! He’s the man of my dreams!

Well, there ya go – had to drive four hours for six and a half years? I’m thinking like after about five you might have realized maybe there’s a little spark there or something… But, hey, as long as you finally figured it out!
