Dear Kix,

After a family trip to the Kenton County Animal Shelter, my six year-old son, Parker, wanted to become a volunteer. But, at the time, volunteers had to be 14.  So, when I told him he couldn’t participate, Parker was determined to find a way to help, and thus Parker's Pet Project began.

Parker began asking friends and family for donations that he could take to the animal shelter through a Facebook page we created. Then, one morning, a local radio show was featuring kids who were making a difference and they mentioned Parker!  Within hours his Facebook page grew from almost 100 likes to close to 1,000 and Parker began holding collection events and donations poured in.

To date, Parker has made car loads of donations to the shelter, and for his birthday and Christmas, he asks for toys for the pets instead of for himself.  He is always thinking of the animals and what he can do to make their time in the shelter a little happier.

Parker is a hero because he is changing the world, at least around here, with his selflessness and love and I’m so very proud of him!

P.S.: The shelter has made it so that anyone six years old and up can now volunteer!

Signed,
Christina
