Zak emailed us his Hero nomination…

Dear Kix,

My hero would be the social outreach director and founder of Motown Soup, Dan Karlin.  Dan has been working to serve the homeless throughout Detroit for over the past decade.  He started SSS (Soup, Sandwich, and a Shower) at our church, and every Sunday makes sure everyone has a good meal.

The reason he is my hero though is for his innovation to create a non-profit called Motown Soup.  This non-profit was created 10 years ago selling dry soup mixes at local stores, craft shows, and now online and has given back $365,000 into the community.  Dan does not look for a penny of the profits we make even though this is a full time job on top of his current full time job.

Dan is someone we all should look at as an example of the impact we each can make in our community.  He has truly taken the reins and been a difference in countless peoples lives.  He continues to find new ways to grow Motown Soup and find new ways to impact our community.

Thanks, Kix.

Signed,
Zak

Kix's Response:

Thanks to you, Zak – and I call it the chicken and the pig syndrome… If you’ve never heard that story – the chicken and the pig were talking about providing breakfast for the farmer and his family. The chicken said, "Well, I’ll provide the eggs, if you’ll provide the bacon," and the pig said, "Yeah. Well, for you, it’s a donation; for me, it’s real commitment."

Of course, the point is there are folks who donate and there are folks who commit, and for all you real commitment folks out there, God bless!
