Desiree emailed us her Hero nomination…
Dear Kix,
Since I was born, my grandmother (Geneva) – we call her Nana – has been more than just a hero to me… she’s also my angel!
For as long as I can remember, my Nana has been the one who has taught me to be a good person. I spent time with her and Papa every chance I got especially during the summers. She’s not only wonderful with people…she takes great care of all living things like plants, flowers, trees and animals! She taught me to sew, crochet, cook, bake and endless other things that have helped shape who I am today. She’s heroic in the example she’s set on what it means to be a kind, generous, loving human being.
She's been widowed for 30 years and is now 94 years old. Sadly, she’s recently suffered some healthy setbacks, but her mind is still clear, she still has her heart of gold and her stories are the best.
Its hard to express just what she means to me or how much I love her or how beautiful I think she is… But, I’ve always thought she was an angel that God put on this Earth and that she would never die because God needed her here.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. No matter what, she will be my hero of the week every week, month and year for eternity. I love my Nana…. My angel, My hero!

I had a couple of those, Desiree.
It’s so important to have a role model in your life that let’s you see – “it can be done.” Life can be lived with style and grace and integrity and honor.
Not that I’ve done it all right, but I did have a few people in my life who tried to show me how.
