Emily emailed us her Hero nomination…
Dear Kix,
My name is Emily and I am writing to nominate Misty and Jaime Curiel. These two wonderful people, including their awesome teenagers, opened their home to me after Misty, who was my volunteer caregiver, saw the situation I was living in.
You see, I am autistic and have a severe disease which requires me to have a pacemaker to keep my heart beating. I had been living in an assisted living hospital when Misty and her family came into my life.
Remarkably, they asked me to come live with them rent free, so she and her family could make sure I was okay and so that I could have a much better quality of life.
Even more amazing, Misty has her own health issues, yet she insisted on taking me in and treats me like family. She even takes me to doctor appointments and makes sure I take my medication. Jaime also helps by being a sort of father figure, and letting me help him with stuff around the house! I am learning TONS of life skills I never thought possible!
Now, I actually know how it feels to be in a loving family and for the first time in my life, I’m not judged for having special needs!
That's why I nominate Misty and Jaime for Hero of the Week.

Emily, thanks so much for this. I’m always blown away by stories like this when everyday people just step up and share their love to this extent. God bless you, Misty and Jamie, for helping to make Emily’s life so special.
It makes me feel pretty selfish, so I’m going to go out and make sure I do something good for someone this week. What if we all did that? Let’s shine a little light out there and try and make a difference!
