Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not? – Floyd and Violet Hartwig’s Story

This is where YOU tell us YOUR love stories!  You know, like how you met your honey… how you found true love after all this time… or maybe even how you finally got back together with the one that got away.  You get the idea – whatever your "happily ever after" is, we wanna hear it!!!

This week’s story is a touching one pulled from the pages of People.com about a couple that was married for 67 years and died holding hands.

Floyd and Violet Hartwig met in grammar school and eventually fell in love.  They were married on August 16, 1947, owned a ranch in California, and had three children.  Floyd was in the Navy for six years and worked delivering eggs for a feed company throughout his life.  Meanwhile, Violet, stayed at home, took care of the children, enjoyed sewing, and made her husband breakfast at 4:30am every morning.

In their later years, Violet suffered from dementia and, recently, around the holidays, she started to decline pretty rapidly. Then, at about the same time, Floyd experienced kidney failure and was given only a brief time to live; however, Floyd’s only concern was for the health of the love of his life Violet.

So, their children decided to place their parents in hospice care together!  As they felt the end drawing near, the kids pushed Floyd and Violet’s beds close to one another and placed their hands together.  Within a few hours Floyd passed away, and it wasn’t too long after that Violet went to join him.

Floyd and Violet’s children recall that they were simple, decent people who would kiss each other goodbye every day and that they loved their country and family more than anything else!

The couple never wanted to let go of one another…and, even in the end, they didn’t!

Kix's Response:

Isn’t that crazy… I know it’s not the fun and games I try to bring you, but sometimes stuff just matters, doesn’t it? I just had to share that one.
