Kix read this story on People.com and wanted to share it with you:

Brooke Thomas was just seven years old when she began helping people at school who didn’t have enough money to eat.  Brooke’s mom, Dianna, says that her daughter was going through her lunch money so fast that she didn’t know what was going on.  Well, that’s when Brooke told her mom that she’d been buying food for her friends because they were coming to school hungry and couldn't purchase lunch.  So, Brooke and Dianna realized there must be a hunger problem in their community, and they wanted to help!

They discovered that more than 75 percent of the kids at Brooke's school were on free and reduced lunches… and that’s when they had the idea for The Thomas Promise Foundation.

Three years later, the non-profit has packed over 200 thousand meals for school kids in the Tampa area!  Each week, volunteers, including Brooke, pack and give away about a thousand backpacks filled with enough food to get students at 19 different elementary and middle schools through the weekend. They also offer a food pantry to high school students.

Brooke’s mom runs the foundation now, and the headquarters are located on her father's car dealership lot.  Brooke is in school but says she finally has peace of mind knowing that the kids have enough food to eat over the weekend.
