This week’s Hero nomination comes from Rob who writes…

Hi Kix!

My hero is my daughter Danielle Watson. She is 25 and has a developmental disability that makes everyone thinks she is only 13 or 14 years old.

Let me tell you about the awesome person she is: Danielle may have a disability but that does not stop her from being the most caring person I have ever met.

She takes care of her 81 year-old grandmother.  She helps her mother with her little sister (who is six years old and also disabled).  She also helps her brother do his schoolwork and helps with keeping the house clean.  She’s tremendous!!! This is all her choice… it’s just the way she is and has always been.

Danielle is also determined to become an accomplished horse back rider and having her own horse Coco has given her the confidence she needs to succeed.

Danielle is my hero because she is such a giving person who thinks of the needs of others before her own, and she doesn’t let her disability keep her from doing the things she wants to do.

Finally, Danielle loves country music and her two favorite artists are Martine McBride and Reba.

I hope you read this and let others know that people with disabilities like Danielle can be an asset to others and can accomplish their dreams and live a happy normal life. Danielle is an AWESOME daughter and her mother and I are very proud of her.

Thank you for reading this, Kix.

Respectfully,
Rob Watson

Kix's Response:

Thank you for this letter, Rob.

I can only imagine that parents of children with disabilities have to go though a lot of heartache, and I’m guessing mostly because people probably don’t totally understand the caring and contribution they add to our world everyday. Thanks for sharing, and please give our thanks to your daughter Danielle for being such a good helper!
