Hi, Kix!
My name is Rachel Mann and I would like to nominate my big brother Sgt. Joseph Lilly as the Hero of the Week.
When Joe graduated high school, he headed right to the Army. Joe was deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan. While in Afghanistan, Joe suffered a gunshot wound. The bullet went through one side of his chin and came out the other. When the person in charge of his unit called over the radio to ask if someone had been shot, Joe said, “Yep, that was me. I’m okay though. How is everyone your way?” He was always concerned about others.
Sadly, a few weeks later, at just 25 years old, Joe made the ultimate sacrifice. He left behind lots of friends, brothers in the Army, a loving family and a three-year-old son who looks just like him.
I want to nominate my brother as the Hero of the Week not just because he gave his life for this beautiful country, but because he did so with honor, pride and without any fear. He will always be my hero.
I love listening to your show every week and I’d be honored to hear my hero’s name on the radio!

Thanks so much for this, Rachel.
Having been one of the people from back home who has had the honor of going over and performing for our troops, it’s hard to describe their conditions and how hard they work, and, of course, there are no guarantees everyday when they go out that they will make it back.
I’ll stop there because if you know anything about me, it’s not hard to get me going with a letter like this. God bless your brother Joe, you and his family, and God bless America – we have a lot to be thankful for like all our brothers and sisters in camo listening right now on American Forces Radio.
