This week’s question is from Scott who writes…
Hey Kix,
How many semi-trucks does it take to put on a concert? I saw a few Taylor Swift trucks heading to Canada one week. I know they carry stages, props, lighting, etc. But, does it depend how big the show is or how big the artist’s tour is?
Thanks,
Scott

Kix’s Response:
I think you sort of answered this one yourself, Scott. It does depend on how big the venues are and how big the artist is and that sort of calls the shots on what you travel with – how much stuff you rent and how much you bring with you.
I think the biggest tours that Ronnie and I ever did were with Reba. We had 21 trucks and 19 buses at that time, but that’s carrying all the staging and lighting. We also had trucks with nothing but giant generators, so we wouldn’t have to worry about the power going down.
For the huge shows like Kenny Chesney and Taylor Swift are doing in stadiums, it takes even more stuff. I think the average tours you see in amphitheaters probably have between three and eight trucks and probably three or four buses to carry sound and lights, a set, and the folks that make it happen.
It’s a hillbilly circus, and don’t let anybody tell how hard it is. We put in the time and the crew gives it all they got, but it really is living the dream and I don’t know anyone who would trade it for a desk.
