Kix’s buddy and neighbor Tim McGraw actually tweeted about this week’s Hero and we found the whole story behind the tweet on LittleThings.com, and we wanted share it with you:
Detective Jack Mook is a 22-year veteran of the Pittsburgh police force, but underneath his tough exterior is a very big heart. It all started when Jack, who volunteers at Steel City Boxing to teach underprivileged kids, noticed that two of his regulars, Josh and his younger brother Jessee, stopped showing up for practice. So, Jack set out to find the kids and when he did, Josh revealed that he and Jessee had been staying with abusive foster parents. Soon after that, Jack arranged to be the boys’ foster dad, and eventually he adopted them. Jack went from bachelor detective to single dad, and now, Jack says that it’s the best thing he’s ever done!
When the CBS Evening News first aired that adoption story, they got countless emails from single women. One of those women watching was Mary, but instead of emailing, when she heard Jack would be at a local bar, she went and introduced herself. Two years later, the couple got married, and Mary brought her own three boys to join the family. Jack never thought his life would turn out like this, but he says he sure is glad it did.
