Kix TV: Charles Kelley

When Lady Antebellum hit the scene with their debut single “Love Don’t Live Here” in 2007, the trio hit the ground running and never looked back. It didn’t take long before Lady A had collected numerous awards and nine number one hits, including one monster smash…you may have heard of it…a little song titled “Need You Now.” The song won four Grammy Awards, along with trophies from the ACMs and CMAs, and lifted Lady A’s career onto a new level. Success continued as the group released four more albums and headlined major arena tours.

However, as their Wheels Up Tour concluded and 2015 drew to a close, Charles Kelley, Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood decided to hit the pause button on Lady A in order recharge their creative juices. This hiatus marks their first break since starting their career. And, it finds each member pursuing solo endeavors apart from the group.

First up is Charles as he releases his solo album The Driver. The project’s first single, featuring vocals from Dierks Bentley and Eric Paslay, has already caught the ear of Grammy voters landing it in the Best Country Duo/Group Performance category.

Back in September, Charles stopped by the studio to talk about why he had to strike out on his own. Plus, Charles reflects on the struggles he and wife Cassie faced in trying to start their own family. The couple is looking forward to their first child – a boy – arriving in February.
