The Song Remembers When: “Bartender” – Lady Antebellum

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

“Bartender” was the first song released from Lady Antebellum’s 747 album back in 2014. It was written by the trio along with songwriter Rodney Clawson.

So, Dave Haywood said that the song was born by a title Charles Kelley had on his phone and an idea Dave had on his. They pulled them together for what was the last writing session for the album. Dave said that part of the inspiration came from the group wanting a song that would be great live, and something their fans could get lost in and help them forget their own troubles.

Now, Hillary Scott sings the lead on the song and said that she loved the idea that the girl doesn’t play the victim after a break up – that she just wants to go out and have a night with her girlfriends!

The song became the trio’s ninth number one back in September of 2014.

So, this week, we remember “Bartender” by Lady Antebellum:
