The Song Remembers When: “It Don’t Hurt Like It Used To” – Billy Currington

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Billy Currington earned his 11th number one this past October with his third single off his album Summer Forever. The song? “It Don’t Hurt Like It Used To.” It was written by Billy and songwriters Carey Barlow and Shy Carter.

Billy said Shy was in Nashville visiting from L.A. and had just finished a writing session with Carey, so he told Billy to come on by and say hey. Billy wasn’t expecting to jump into a writing session, but that’s exactly what happened!  Within an hour and half, the three guys had a song, and Billy said that it was a magical moment and something like that doesn’t happen often.

Billy said that he forgot about the song and was about to do his last session for his Summer Forever album until his manager reminded him of the one he had written… The song went on to become a number one last year.

This week, we remember Billy Currington’s “It Don’t Hurt Like It Used To:”
