Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Kidde Hero of the Week…

This week’s Hero is nominated by Janet Leiter out of Fairfield, Ohio. She wanted to salute her brother-in-law Paul Leiter. Janet writes:

My husband, Steve, at 62, developed kidney problems and was in need of a kidney transplant. We had everyone from family and friends step up to be tested to see if they were a match for my husband. It was Paul, Steve’s younger brother, who ended up being a good match.

The kidney transplant took place back on April 14th, 2011. The surgery took seven hours. After the surgery, Paul’s first words were “How is Steve?”  When we answered that Steve was okay, Paul said “Good. Mission Accomplished.”

Today, my husband, Steve lives a full life. And, I tell Paul that he is my hero once a year, in April, when we get together to “celebrate life.”

I know Paul doesn’t like me to say that and says that it was just what he was supposed to do. He says that he doesn’t feel like a hero, but I want him to know he is MY hero!

Thanks, Kix, and please let him know I love him!

Kix’s Response:

Well, Janet – what a great story! When I hear about people donating kidneys, I always have to stop and ask myself if I’m that strong. I’d like to say yes, and I have to say stories like this one are certainly inspiring for all of us.

Paul and Steve will obviously share a bond that few people experience, and I’m sure your support makes it all the more special! Thanks for taking the time to write in with that one!
