The Song Remembers When: “Blue Ain’t Your Color” – Keith Urban

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Keith Urban’s latest number one, “Blue Ain’t Your Color,” was written by Hillary Lindsey, Steven Olsen and Clint Lagerberg.

Now, Steven Olsen is also an artist and he told his publisher to not pitch this thing because he wanted to record it… unless it was Keith Urban.

Well, Keith said that he fell for the song immediately – from the melody to the lyric!

And, although it was a waltz, he didn’t want it to sound like it was, so when he produced the song with his co-producer Dann Huff, he said that he kept it a little more “robotic sounding” by adding a drum machine and he kept messing around with other sounds that he felt gave it, its own “sonic thumbprint.”

Well, the song became Keith’s 22nd number one song, and his fourth consecutive off the Ripcord album! And, it has gone on to receive two Grammy nominations and is in contention for ACM Single and Song of the Year!

Here it is – this week’s The Song Remembers When – “Blue Ain’t Your Color:”
