Jason Bowmaster, a retired lieutenant from the Jacksonville Arkansas Fire Department, wrote in to nominate Police Officer Daniel DiMatteo and Ronnie Brown.

Jason writes:

A few years ago, I, along with Captain Donnie Jones and Police Officer Daniel DiMatteo, responded to a call: a car had hit a gas main. We were unable to contain the leak and had to wait for the gas company.

While we waited, a van came around our emergency vehicles and struck all three of us intentionally.

My Captain did not survive, and both Officer DiMatteo and I suffered life threatening injuries. At the scene, a bystander by the name of Ronnie Brown came to our aid and helped stopped traffic. And, Officer DiMatteo was able to radio for help.

There is so much more to this story, of survival, rehabilitation and the fight to return to work, but I’ll wrap up by saying my heroes to this day are Officer DiMatteo and Ronnie Brown.

Signed,

Jason

Kix’s Response:

First of all, I’m so sorry that you went through this! Our firemen and police officers put their lives on the line every day and I hate to hear of a tragedy like this that could’ve been prevented. It sounds like you had a few angels working around you that day with Officer DiMatteo and Mr. Ronnie Brown.

Thanks for writing in…and it sounds like you should also be on that list of heroes!
