We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…
Kenny Chesney reached number one in October of last year with a song called “Setting the World on Fire.” It was a duet with famed pop artist Pink. The song was written by Josh Osborne, Ross Copperman, and Matt Jenkins.
Now, Josh was at the Grammy’s where he was nominated for co-writing Kacey Musgraves’ hit “Merry Go Round.” So, he and his wife wound up going to the after parties and staying up all night at their hotel near La Cienega Boulevard. They were drinking champagne and singing in the hallways, just having a big ole time!
So, a few days later, he met up with Ross Copperman and Matt Jenkins for a writing session. Well, Ross started playing the music for what would become “Setting the World on Fire,” and it felt to Josh a lot like his night in that L.A. hotel. And then, Matt says that he had this line written down for some time: “We got on La Cienega Boulevard.” Of course, Josh was blown away. And, they knew they had to write the song about his night in Los Angeles.
Well, when Kenny Chesney heard it, he said that the song felt like it needed a female perspective, and the only female singer he felt was strong enough to handle the emotion was Pink. The song went on to become Kenny’s 23rd number one and Pink’s first in country music.
So, this week’s The Song Remembers When is the Grammy-nominated song by Kenny Chesney and Pink – “Setting the World on Fire:”
