50 Country Songs to Get You Through Your Next Summer Road Trip [Playlist]

A quick Google search for “road trip country songs” will get you a list of songs featuring “road” in the title. While we enjoy Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again” and Brooks & Dunn’s “Red Dirt Road” as much as anyone, we decided to dig a little deeper to create a 50-song playlist for your next summer road trip . . . or for your next family get-together . . . or if you just want to lounge by the pool with some tunes.

Below is a 10-song sampling from our 50-song playlist that will help you get through your workday.

10. “Honky Tonkin’” – Hank Williams

In Nashville, it’s not uncommon to hop in the car and head out to the honky-tonks to be social and listen to live country music. Small-town folks might drive out to one of their local “street dances” to spend time with friends. If you’re lucky, there’s something similar wherever you happen to be this summer.

9. “Fastest Girl in Town” – Miranda Lambert

By no means do we endorse exceeding the speed limit, but this song is about driving—at least, we’re pretty sure it is—and the rock elements sound great even with the windows down.

8. “I’m a Ramblin’ Man” – Waylon Jennings

Do not give your heart to a ramblin’ man, but do go on a cross-country road trip to see such beautiful places in the U.S. of A. as New Orleans, California, Cincinnati, West Virginia and even Chicago.

7. “Let’s Go to Vegas” – Faith Hill

Another great song that doesn’t have “road” in the title, despite being about a couple spontaneously driving to Las Vegas to do some high-stakes gambling.

6. “It’s Alright to Be a Redneck” – Alan Jackson

As you’re driving around with the windows down in a car that apparently doesn’t have air conditioning, it’s nice to have Alan Jackson’s upbeat song and angelic voice telling you that it’s okay to be who you are, even if that’s being a redneck.

5. “Fast As You” – Dwight Yoakam

You’ll never be able to look as cool as DW. But it’s fun to imagine.

4. “Blowin’ Smoke” – Kacey Musgraves

Kacey is as cool as the air freshener hanging in front of the AC vent.

3. “My Church” – Maren Morris

Hallelujah!

2. “High-Tech Redneck” – George Jones

Yeah, most of the technology listed in this ’90s ditty from the Possum is comically dated, but that’s part of the allure.

1. “Down the Road I Go” – Travis Tritt

Travis Tritt . . . need we say more?
