It was Taylor Swift who wrote the song and sent it to the band’s Phillip Sweet. Lead singer Karen Fairchild said that when they first went in to record it, they felt it just wasn’t working, so they decided to leave it for a couple of weeks and come back to it. The group didn’t actually reveal that Taylor was the writer because they wanted to let the song stand on its own. And, Karen remarked that even though Taylor is this superstar now, at heart she is a Nashville songwriter who is great at telling stories.
