One of the integral keys to Kenny Chesney’s successful career has been the Virgin Islands, in particular St. John USVI where Kenny has maintained a residence for several years. You can hear the recurring theme in his music through songs like “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems” and “Shiftwork,” as well as island-inspired albums like Kenny’s 2003 Christmas record All I Want for Christmas is a Real Good Tan or 2013’s Life on a Rock.
For over 20 years, the Virgin Islands has given so much to Kenny, and now, he is returning the favor by giving back when they need it the most. After the devastation of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, Kenny began the Love for Love City Foundation. It’s a fund to spur donation efforts and to help identify local needs. The recovery will be years in the making, and Kenny hopes to aid things along through Love for Love City.
In Part 2 of his conversation with Kix, Kenny details his love for the islands and why he was inspired to give back. But, first, Kenny reflects on a special experience of filming CMT Crossroads with classic rock icon Steve Miller.
