The Song Remembers When: “Diamond Rings and Old Barstools” – Tim McGraw

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In 2015, Tim McGraw released the fourth and final song from his album Sundown Heaven Town. Now, the song – “Diamond Rings and Old Barstools” – went on to become a Top 5 hit that year.

It was co-written by Barry Dean, Luke Laird, and Jonathan Singleton. Now, Barry said that the day they were writing, it was Luke who just started playing his guitar and then out loud sang, “Diamond rings and old barstools.”

Tim said that the song had this “country nostalgia sound with a modern edge,” and he just loved it. And, Tim brought in his first cousin Catherine Dunn to sing backgrounds and she knocked it out in about ten minutes.

So, here’s this week’s The Song Remembers When… Tim McGraw and “Diamond Rings and Old Barstools:”
