Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Kidde Hero of the Week…

Rita from Indiana, Pennsylvania, wrote in with her Hero nomination. She writes:

Dear Kix,

I would like to nominate my daughter Jayme for your Kidde Hero of the Week.

Four years ago on the day before Thanksgiving, Jayme donated one of her kidneys to me and gave me a chance at a longer and healthier life.

You see back when Jayme was born, I was diagnosed with a kidney disease. But, with medication and medical care, I’ve been able to raise two beautiful children – Jayme, who’s a teacher, and Ben, who’s a doctor.

In 2012, test results showed my kidneys were failing. Ben suggested that I get on a transplant list. My daughter Jayme, on her own, went and got tested to be a donor, and she was a perfect match. Four years ago, the surgery was a success, and Jayme and I spent Thanksgiving in the hospital.

I’m a special education teacher, a grandmother, and I am so thankful for our many blessings, including my daughter Jayme who is my hero.

Thanks, Kix!

Signed,
Rita

Kix’s Response:

What a good story!

Sounds like Jayme is an extraordinary young woman! And, it also sounds like you’re not too bad yourself, Rita! With your daughter being a teacher and your son, a doctor, they all sound very accomplished! I’d like to think it’s we – the parents – that get to take credit for raising great kids! But, hey, obviously, they’ve done their part.

So, here’s to Jayme – this week’s Kidde Hero!
