We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…
It was 2008 and the front man for the rock group Hootie and the Blowfish was launching a solo country career. Darius Rucker released his first country song “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It” the end of May 2008.
He co-wrote this song with writer Clay Mills. Now, Clay was going to ride the bus with Hootie and the Blowfish and thought he was writing a song for the band, not relaunching Darius’ career in country music. Well, everything Clay had prepared to write wasn’t going to work. Then, he told Darius that he had just broken up with a girlfriend and maybe he wasn’t really prepared, but Darius convinced him to stay. The two started talking about past relationships and break ups and that’s when Darius said that he always thinks about where his grade school girlfriend is and then said, “Don’t think I don’t think about it!” Well, that was all Clay needed to hear.
The next day, he had most of the chorus written and finished up the song with Darius. And, tt was the perfect introduction to the country audience and it became Darius’ first country number one!
And, it’s this week’s The Song Remembers When – Darius Rucker and “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It:”
