The Song Remembers When: “Colder Weather” – Zac Brown Band

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In 2011, Zac Brown Band reached number one with their song called “Colder Weather.” The song was co-written by Zac Brown along with his frequent collaborators Wyatt Durrette, Coy Bowles, and Levi Lowrey.

Wyatt was dating a girl in Georgia and he was traveling with the band when they got stuck in Wisconsin because of bad weather. His girlfriend wasn’t happy when he called her to tell her he wouldn’t be able to meet her as they had planned. Now, Wyatt went back to the bus, and he started writing the song, brought Zac in to help with it. They finished up a verse and a chorus, but they sat on the song for about six months before finishing it up with Coy and Levi.

The band loved this thing, and they all felt a connection to the song because of their mutual lifestyle, living on the road and being away from their families. For Wyatt, he said it was a story of “impossible love” where geography and timing got in the way.

The song became Zac Brown Band’s sixth number one, and it’s this week’s The Song Remembers When – Zac Brown Band and “Colder Weather:”
