The Song Remembers When: Justin Moore – “If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In 2011, Justin Moore went to number one for the second time with the song “If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away.” Justin had heard the Rhett Akins version back in 2006. It was co-written by Dallas Davidson, Rob Hatch, and Brett Jones.

Now, the writers said that they started talking about Brett’s loss of his two brothers and his father. And then, they all started sharing stories about the ones that they’ve lost and the desire to see them in heaven. Well, Dallas said that they threw in personal stories and places to help paint the picture. For instance, he really had a dog named Beau and wished he could take him hunting just one more time.

Justin said that the great thing about the song is it evokes every emotion you can think of and, to him, that’s what country music is all about.

This week’s The Song Remembers When is Justin Moore with “If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away.”
