In this bonus edition of our Kickin’ It with Kix Podcast, ACC Executive Producer Lonnie Napier goes in-depth on the life and career of legendary lyricist Bernie Taupin. He is best known for his long-time collaboration with music icon Elton John. The partnership dates back to 1967 when Bernie answered an ad in a British music paper and the rest is history. The results of their work together is undeniable – “Rocket Man,” “Tiny Dancer,” “Candle in the Wind,” “Bennie and the Jets,” and “Your Song” are just a few of the iconic songs they’re responsible for.
While you might not recognize it at first, country music had a big impact on these songs. Growing up in rural England, Bernie was heavily influenced by the very visual lyrics of songs by the likes of Marty Robbins, Johnny Cash, and Johnny Horton. The story-telling aspect of the music inspired Bernie in a deep way. And, with the just-released Restoration album, that aspect of Bernie’s lyrics really shine. Little Big Town, Miranda Lambert, Maren Morris, and Chris Stapleton are just a few of the artists who take part in this tribute.
Listen as Bernie talks about the creation of the album and looks back on his life and career:
Restoration, along with its pop-focused companion album Revamp, is available now.
