We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…
Kane Brown released “What Ifs,” featuring Lauren Alaina, last year and watched the song go to the top of the Countdown. It was the first number one of his career. The song was co-written by Kane and songwriters Jordan Schmidt and Matthew McGinn.
Jordan says that the inspiration for the song came from a Shel Silverstein poem called “What If.” Jordan thought that was a great idea to take off on… What if this? What if that? Matthew said that he loved that idea and felt the anxiety kind of added to the song because he said that he lives with that feeling of “What if?”
Well, it was the first time the three of them worked together, and the chemistry was there.
Then, Jordan mentioned the idea of adding a female voice to the song to Kane. And, Kane said, “Yeah, that’s a good idea,” and that he had a friend with a great voice that could do it. At the time, they had no idea he was talking about Lauren Alaina!
So, this week’s The Song Remembers When is this number one from 2017 – “What Ifs.”
