In light of what happened with another mass shooting, we thought we’d take this time to highlight Sergeant Ron Helus, who lost his life, along with 11 others, in the Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks, California.
There were a lot of folks inside that club who are singling out several men as heroes. Men who got on their knees to protect them from the gunfire. And, Sergeant Ron Helus was the first responder who ran into the bar to confront the shooter. Sergeant Helus lost his life, but the police department said that there could have been more loss of life had he not done what he did. There were over two hundred people in that bar.

Kix’s Response:
I think a lot of us try to imagine what we might do in a situation like that. Like a lot of first responders, Sergeant Helus gave up his life to save others. And, to all those who are grieving over what happened in Thousand Oaks and affected by the fires in California, our thoughts are with you. To the family of Sergeant Ron Helus, we would like to recognize him as our Hero of the Week.
