Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Kidde Hero of the Week…

Shannon Shipley emailed us with her Hero nomination. She writes:

Dear Kix,

I would like to recommend the 9-1-1 dispatchers from Eastern North Carolina, to be recognized as your Kidde Heroes.

During Hurricane Florence, they stayed at their centers for over a week straight – sleeping on cots, air mattresses, and, sometimes, the floor. They brought their own food, and they had to wash up In bathroom sinks.

In Pender County alone, they put in several hundred water rescue calls in addition to the regular EMS, fire, police, and sheriff’s calls. They helped dozens of people and families get to safety. And, these dispatchers left their homes and families to serve their communities and that is why I would like to recommend all the 9-1-1 telecommunicators as Heroes of the Week.

Thank you, Kix!

Signed,
Shannon

Kix’s Response:

Well, Shannon, thank you so much! I think that’s a great idea, and I can’t even imagine the chaos that was going on… Thanks to all the first responders who help in times like those to make things, well as hard as they are, a little bit easier.
