The Song Remembers When: Lady Antebellum – “Downtown”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Lady Antebellum scored their seventh career number one in April of 2013 with the song “Downtown.” It was written by Luke Laird, Natalie Hemby, and Barry Dean – some of Nashville’s finest songwriters.

Lady A’s Dave Haywood said that they were surprised that it was pitched to them because it didn’t seem like a song they’d probably do. And, actually, the song had gone to Miranda Lambert first, but when she heard that Lady A was interested, Miranda let it go – something that doesn’t happen in Nashville.

Lady A’s Hillary Scott and Charles Kelley both felt that it was an empowering song for women and really a great way to show Hillary’s, as they put it, “sassy side!”

So, this week’s The Song Remembers When, is a two-week number one from Lady Antebellum – “Downtown.”
