The Song Remembers When: Chris Young featuring Vince Gill – “Sober Saturday Night”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

The third single from Chris Young’s I’m Comin’ Over album was “Sober Saturday Night.” It was a duet with Vince Gill. And, even though the lyrics make it sound like somebody’s suffering from a bad hangover, it’s really about waking up alone.

Chris wrote the song with the Warren Brothers. They had spent three and a half hours writing another song that never even saw the light of day. But, when they finished that song, they still had an hour left before they had some family obligations. So, they decided to try and get something started for the next time they got together.

They started writing, and the concept and the lyrics just came together. They had spent the whole day on another song and then wrote “Sober Saturday Night” in 45 minutes.

Chris decided to call and ask Vince Gill if he’d sing on the song with him and Vince said, “Yes.” And, being a giant Vince Gill fan, that made it even more special for Chris. It reached number one on the Billboard Country Airplay chart in March last year.

So, this week’s The Song Remembers When is Chris Young, along with Vince Gill, with “Sober Saturday Night.”
