The Song Remembers When: Jason Aldean’s “Tattoos on This Town”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In 2011, Jason Aldean released the fourth single off his My Kinda Night album, a song titled “Tattoos on This Town.” It was co-written by Neil Thrasher, Wendell Mobley, and Michael Dulaney.

Now, Neil said that the title came to him when he was driving around Nashville. He came to a stop light and he saw skid marks on the street in front of him. He took the title to a writing appointment that morning. He said that they used all the things they could think of from skid marks on the street to a rope burn on a tree, even paint on a bridge – all examples of how people leave their mark behind.

Well, Jason heard it, and he felt it related to his last night before graduating from high school when he and his friends spray painted their names in the parking lot in big letters so the teachers would see it the next day. He wanted to leave something for them to remember him by…

The song fell just shy of the top, landing at #2 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart in December of that year. And, it’s this week’s The Song Remembers When – Jason Aldean and “Tattoos on This Town.”
