Hero of the Week: Alan Taylor and Shoes for Souls

Find out how you can nominate a “Hero of the Week” at the bottom of the page.

Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week…

This week, Jodi Tipton, of East Tennessee, wrote in to honor her brother-in-law Alan Taylor.

Alan lost his battle with pancreatic cancer last month, but before his passing, he had set out on a mission to help children in his hometown area of Roane County, Tennessee. Alan wanted to make sure that every child had new shoes to start off the school year. He felt that it was very important that no one felt different or less than anyone else.

After his passing, his family wanted to make sure his dream lived on, so they started a nonprofit called Shoes for Souls. The organization helps kids at Kingston Elementary School by providing those in need with brand new sneakers. The hope is to see it branch out to all rural areas throughout Eastern Tennessee.

Alan’s daughter Abbey said that the family feels that it’s their job and that they are proud to carry on his legacy.

Chuck Wick’s Response:

It sounds like Alan had the idea and the family, friends and community are helping to carry out the dream. So, we’d like to not only recognize Alan Taylor but all of his friends and family as our heroes this week!

It’s great to see folks helping their neighbors… And, what a legacy!
