The Song Remembers When: Brett Young’s “In Case You Didn’t Know”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Brett Young’s “In Case You Didn’t Know” held onto the number one spot for two weeks during the summer of 2017.

It was just one of the 11 songs that he co-wrote for his debut album. And, the song was written during a songwriters retreat in Mexico with Trent Tomlinson and Tyler Reeve.

It was Trent who said that his mom always told him, as he would leave, “Hey, in case you didn’t know, I love you.” Brett said that he and Tyler looked at each other and knew instantly that was the song that they would be writing that day.

But, they didn’t want to write something as direct as that, so they put a little twist to it. They decided that this song would be about what poor of a job men do of expressing their feelings. Once they got that down, Brett said that the song was written and recorded in less than three hours.

It’s this week’s The Song Remembers When – Brett Young’s “In Case You Didn’t Know.”
