Hero of the Week: Rodney Smith, Jr.

Find out how you can nominate a “Hero of the Week” at the bottom of the page.

Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week…

This week, we recognize Rodney Smith, Jr. from Alabama.

Four years ago, Rodney was inspired to start a free yard mowing service after seeing an elderly man cutting his lawn. That mission evolved into cutting grass for veterans in every state.

Rodney drove across the country this spring posting photos of him along with veterans as he cut their lawns. Sponsorships by individuals and corporations helped pay his expenses. And, just last week, he visited his 50th state – Hawaii. He was able to cut the grass of a veteran living in Oahu, and he made the trip out there thanks to Delta Airlines.

Rodney says that going forward, he’ll continue to provide free lawn care to veterans, the elderly, the disabled, and single mothers in his home state of Alabama. You can check out more about Rodney’s Raising Men Lawn Care Service here.

Kix’s Response:

I think Rodney’s trek across the country highlights how important it is to do for others.  With all the media attention on this story, it definitely makes you stop and think about how we can help those in our own neighborhoods.

So, to Rodney Smith, Jr., thank you for making the journey and inspiring others to do more of the same! You are this week’s Hero!
