Hero of the Week: Kemiya Langley

Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.

This week, we have a story about a little girl out of Nashville.

Six-year-old Kemiya Langley has taken an interest in making sure her community stays clean. Every day on her walk to school, Kemiya carries an empty trash bag, and she fills it with any garbage that she finds along the sidewalk. Her mother said that her daughter took it upon herself to start cleaning up the street one morning.

Kemiya has told her teachers and other students about how important it is to take care of their community, and she hopes other kids will join her. She also hopes that her story will inspire people not to litter.

Well, word got out to Nashville’s Metro Public Works about Kemiya and how she has been cleaning up the streets. So, they surprised her by giving her one of their public works shirts, a bag, and a trash grabber to make her an official part of their team. A local news crew was even there to capture it all. And, you can check out that story from Nashville’s WKRN here.

Kix’s Response:

Congratulations, Kemiya – what a way to set a great example! Only six-years-old and already making a big difference?! You are our ACC Hero of the Week.
