So many stories of bravery and acts of heroism have surfaced in the fight against those wild fires in Australia.

We’d like pay tribute to the famous family the Irwins this week. Terri, Steve Irwin’s widow took over the Australia Zoo after Steve’s death back in 2006, along with help from their two children Bindi and Robert. Their zoo is home to the wildlife hospital, which has become base camp to many of the animals who have been hurt in those fires.

There have been so many animals lost, but the Irwins have brought in close to 90 thousand animals to that hospital where they are being treated for burns. From possums to fruit bats and grey foxes and a lot of koala bears, all of them have found refuge at the Irwins’ hospital in the Australia Zoo. The staff is working tirelessly around the clock to attend to these poor animals.

For that reason, we’d like to recognize the Irwins and their team as this week’s heroes. Our heart goes out to everyone affected by those fires.
