The Song Remembers When: Jake Owen – “Anywhere With You”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

When Jake Owen headed to the studio to record his third album, Barefoot Blue Jean Night, he was armed with songs from some of Nashville’s best songwriters. It was really the first time Jake backed off from writing and headed out to Music Row to see what was out there. The change up proved to be a good move – the album not only gave Jake his first career number one but four of them!

In 2013, he released the album’s fourth and final single, “Anywhere With You.” It was written by Jimmy Yeary, Ben Hayslip, and David Lee Murphy.

Jake said that after the song came out, some fans questioned the lyric, “I’ll go anywhere, West Virginia, baby, I don’t care.”  They felt that it implied that West Virginia wasn’t good enough. Jake assured them that was not the case. He said that it never even occurred to him that people would take the line in that way; he just loved the song and thought it was one he’d like to sing for the rest of his life.

It went to the top of the countdown in the Summer of 2013, and it’s this week’s The Song Remembers When. Here’s Jake with “Anywhere With You.”
