The Song Remembers When: Dan + Shay and Justin Bieber – “10,000 Hours”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Back in January, Dan + Shay, along with Justin Bieber, spent hit number one with “10,000 Hours.” It was written by Dan Smyers, Shay Mooney, and the duo’s frequent collaborators Jordan Reynolds and Jessie Jo Dillon, who is the daughter of legendary songwriter Dean Dillon. All you fans out there are definitely familiar with his work because Dean wrote most of George Strait’s hits!

Jessie said that on the day they wrote the song, the four of them were talking about author Malcolm Gladwell and his book Outliers. In the book, Malcolm wrote about how it takes ten thousand hours to really master something. So, they took that concept and matched it with the idea of mastering the art of love – the fact that it would take that amount of time to really know every little thing about someone.

Dan and Shay both said that they could hear Justin Bieber on the song. As it turns out, they happen to share the same manager. So, they connected with Justin and played the song for him. He loved it!

It became a two-week number one, and it was the first time Justin had a hit on the country chart!

Plus, it’s this week’s The Song Remembers When… Here’s Dan + Shay, along with Justin Bieber, and their chart-topping hit “10,000 Hours.”
