The Song Remembers When: Brad Paisley – “Beat This Summer”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In honor of the first official weekend of summer, we’re taking a look back at Brad Paisley’s 2013 hit “Beat This Summer.” It was Brad’s second single off his Wheelhouse album, and it peaked just shy of number one that July. Brad wrote the song with writers Chris DuBois and Luke Laird.

Now, Luke had driven over to Brad’s place after getting a call from Chris encouraging him to stop by so they could write. It was around one in the morning when the three of them worked on this song. Luke had laid down the track, while Brad and Chris settled on the title. It took them a few hours to pull it all together.

Brad said that the song is about looking at one of those love affairs that happens over the summer. He tried to capture that idea of the best summer – one that you’re never going to beat when you look back on your youth.

It’s this week’s The Song Remembers When… Here’s Brad Paisley with “Beat This Summer.”
