We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…
Back in 2016, Kelsea Ballerini was enjoying a string of hits off her debut album The First Time. Well, “Yeah Boy” was her fourth and final single release off that project. And, in May of the following year, it reached inside the Top 5, peaking at number three.
Believe it or not, the song was somewhat inspired by rapper Flavor Flav – you might remember his catch phrase “Yeah, boy!” Well, Kelsea had caught his commercial during the Super Bowl and saw him say that, and for some reason, it stuck with her. So, she brought that phrase to her songwriting session with Keesy Timmer and Forest Glen Whitehead.
The idea of the song was focused on a strong female who isn’t afraid to go after what she wants – a concept that Kelsea had been writing around a lot when it came to the songs for her debut project. In this case, it was letting the guy know: “Hey, I’m into you!”
“Yeah Boy” was released in October of 2016, and it continued Kelsea’s streak of hit singles. It’s this week’s The Song Remembers When… Here’s Kelsea Ballerini with “Yeah Boy.”
