Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.
This week, we highlight 71-year-old Paducah, Kentucky, native Freddie Hicks, or Dancing Freddie as he’s known to the community.
You see for the last 20 years, Dancing Freddie has put on his dancing shoes and headed out to the local grocery store parking lot during the Lions Club’s annual Telethon of Stars. This event raises money for Easter Seals, which helps children and adults of all abilities through personal development and promoting independence. Freddie says that he has personally witnessed the help the organization provides: people getting out of wheelchairs and walking or people in need of speech therapy who are now able to speak with no issues.
Folks from all over the area come to not only see Dancing Freddie but to join him as he dances for donations. We’ve heard that he’s even danced to Brooks & Dunn music!
This year, he announced it would be his last, and he wanted this one to be special. It definitely was – Freddie raised more than ever, over 24 thousand for Easter Seals!
