Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.
This week, we head to Waco, Texas, where a 20-year-old became a hero.
Bianca Rivera lives in a home with three other family members. All of them, except for Bianca, have been dealing with the effects of COVID-19. Those three family members have lost their sense of smell and taste, something that is very common among those infected with the virus. And, it’s why they had no idea that their home had caught fire in the middle of the night.
At two in the morning, Bianca awoke to the smell of what she described as burning plastic. When she got up and opened her door, she saw smoke down the hallway. She quickly ran to the bedrooms of her family members, waking them and yelling, “Fire!” All of them made it out to safety. And, those battling the virus admitted that they never smelled the smoke.
As for Bianca, she said that she did what anyone would do, and she’s thankful that she was able to get everyone to safety.
