The Song Remembers When: Carrie Underwood – “Something In The Water”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In 2014, Carrie Underwood would make a big impact with her song “Something In The Water.” She co-wrote it with Chris DeStefano and Brett James. And, it was one of two new tracks that she featured on her double album Greatest Hits: Decade #1.

Chris remembers that on the day of the session, he got to his studio in the early morning, so he could put down some music tracks that he could bring to Carrie’s house for the writing session. Carrie and Brett both loved what Chris had put together. Carrie started to sing a melody to the track.  She had the vision of “something in the water.” Well, the guys loved what she was singing and went to work on the song.

After a few hours, they felt they had something. As they listened back to the track, Carrie started to sing “Amazing Grace” during the fade of the song. They all started to get emotional and felt that it was important to add that to the song.

It would not only become a hit on country radio, but it would reach number one on Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs chart and earn a Grammy for Best Country Solo Performance.  It’s this week’s The Song Remembers When… Here’s Carrie Underwood with “Something In The Water.”
