Hero of the Week: Alex Trebek and Family

Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.

Alex Trebek’s family is continuing his legacy by paying forward his passion of giving back. During his life, Alex invested his time and money in many causes, so his family thought it would be a good idea to continue his philanthropy work even after his death.

Alex’s son Matthew got together with Jeopardy! costume coordinator Steven Zimbelman to choose clothes from Alex’s wardrobe. A collection of suits, neckties, shoes, sports coats, sweaters and other items were donated to The Doe Fund’s Ready, Willing & Able Program. This program helps those who have been incarcerated, homeless, or who have battled addiction and would like to get back into the workforce. The organization provides vocational training in addition to business attire.

Many of the clothes donated from Alex’s closet are the ones that he wore on the show. They will go a long way in helping these folks get back into the fold.

Kix’s Response:

Wow, what a cool story, huh? Clearly Alex’s compassion for others has been passed down to his own children who seem to have a good feel for what he would’ve wanted.

Alex, himself, once stated: “Don’t tell me what you believe in. I’ll observe how you behave and I will make my own determination.” So, we honor the late Alex Trebek as our ACC Hero.
