The Song Remembers When: Thomas Rhett – “Star Of The Show”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

There’s no denying that Thomas Rhett’s songs are often inspired by the love he has for his wife Lauren. In fact, it was after they got married, back in 2012, when Thomas wrote “Star Of The Show” with his father Rhett Akins and songwriter Ben Hayslip.

The idea for the song came to Thomas when he was performing during a writers’ round at a small venue in Nashville. Lauren was standing at the bar. She wasn’t dressed up or anything, just simply wearing a t-shirt and jeans, but she had captured the eye of several patrons that night. That’s when he realized – he’s not the star, she is!

Thomas held on to the song for a while, occasionally playing it live. It became a fan favorite, and he would eventually record it for the deluxe edition of his Tangled Up album in 2016. The following year, the song became his seventh career number one.

It’s this week’s The Song Remembers When… Here’s Thomas Rhett with “Star Of The Show.”
