Hero of the Week: Katie

Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.

This week, we received an email from Kathleen. She writes:

Hi Kix,

My hero nomination is a little different than what you’ve had in the past. I’d like to nominate a girl named Katie. I don’t know her last name. She passed away in August 2020. She was an organ donor, and she is my hero because she saved my husband Luke’s life.

Luke first got sick nearly six years ago and I was going to donate my kidney, but the doctors told us he needed a kidney and a liver. I can’t thank Katie and her family enough for the life she has given my husband.

Three weeks before Luke’s transplant, we welcomed our first child, a baby girl named Lyla. Luke is alive and able to be here for our daughter thanks to Katie.

Thank you,
Kathleen

Kix’s Response:

Wow, we hear about how organ donors are truly life savers for so many and this story is proof. Thank you, Kathleen, for sharing such a personal story.
