This week, we came across a story about a man named William Dunn, in Clearwater, Florida, who is teaching life lessons to foster children.
You know that phrase “Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, but if you teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime?” That is what William puts into practice as the founder of Take A Kid Fishing. The idea for the non-profit started when William saw a young boy in his neighborhood acting out. The kid was angry and always getting into trouble. When William found out that the boy’s father was not in his life, he started spending time with the boy by taking him fishing. Now, that same boy is a successful young man.
William says that he knows that this is his calling. He and his wife feel blessed to have the opportunity to help these kids grow. And, many of the young children in the program have gone on to graduate with honors.
